The First Lady spent her first morning in Accra, Ghana touring the La General Hospital with the family. She wore a white dress with colorful ribbon stripes from Sophie Theallet's spring 2009 collection. It was a brighter take on the one she wore a few months ago. For a tour of Cape Coast Castle, Lady O changed into her signature casual look-cropped pants and flats. She coordinated with a striped tank and a light blue cardigan pinned with a floral brooch.
The Obamas met with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican today. Michelle Obama followed papal etiquette by wearing all black and a veil. Never one to forgo her own style, the First Lady fused the customary dress with a past look: the Moschino bow blouse + Alaia belt combo first seen in Prague last April. Her skirt and veil were also by Moschino. She let loose after the meeting exchanging her coat and headdress for sunglasses. Then, Lady O went glam for Ghana in a body conscious LBD and a double strand of pearls. Go girl.
While I decided to escape New York in search of a real summer, Michelle Obama has jump-started the season with a 4th of July bash at the White House and a trip to Europe. And like her last two journeys around the globe, all eyes are on what she packed. Check out the slideshow below of the First Lady's looks so far; a mix of her favorities things, old and new: sheath dresses, cardigans, and belts in floral prints and a stunning color palette accentuated by bold accessories.
