Although I think the sheath dress does better things for her, she still looks great in this black cardigan + shell set with a full purple skirt. Michelle Obama attended a prayer service with the family this morning at St. John's Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. She went for a more playful look than the Peter Soronen dress she wore to church on Easter Sunday.

Lady O broke down her Moschino suit from Congress and just wore the circle skirt. Instead of the coordinating jacket, she covered up with a pink leopard print cardigan with sequin details and chiffon trim. Her trademark bow around her waist.

Middle school students and astronomers from across the country gathered at the White House this evening to look at the stars. The First Lady joined them in layers and ballet flats. A ~~Zero + Maria Cornejo~~ belt held together a blue jacket over a lavender top and cardigan. Said jacket appears to be the same Cornejo piece that we've seen her wear in black and purple.

Michelle Obama dug into her inauguration weekend archive this afternoon and put on a purple Zero + Maria Cornejo jacket she wore for the Whistle Tour. This piece is clearly a favorite in the First Lady's closet as she has it in black and blue. And that’s totally understandable considering the jacket’s modern style and flattering cut. She belted her waist with another Cornejo fav from that weekend that we’ve seen not infrequently. After President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act at the Seed School, they headed over to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens to plant trees. And voila! Something new! Hiding underneath Cornejo: an oh-so-cute navy Lanvin top with a bow and emerald ruched front. The combination of those soft elements with the edgy frayed trim is magnifique! At some point Lady O covered up again, but with the navy coat she wore to the Easter Egg Roll instead. As expected, the First Lady of Style is always prepared.

This afternoon, she joined students from Bancroft Elementary School and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in planting herbs at the plot that was started three weeks ago. For their long-awaited first meeting, Lady O donned a deep magenta floral Thakoon dress with a coordinating coat. The upbeat print on a soft silhouette, tie neck, and fine materials flow together for a rather charming look. So I see no need for a debate on who wins this sartorial showdown. Per usual, Bruni-Sarkozy is impeccable and most likely wearing a high end designer. But our First Lady shows you can still look feminine and refined in playful patterns and at a lower price point.

Jason Wu strikes again. This time it’s a blue-green A-line dress for an event at the Royal Opera House this morning with the wives of other global leaders. Said designers came through for her on inauguration day and both were there again for her highly anticipated meeting with Queen Elizabeth this evening. The First Lady wore a satin opera coat by Wu over Toledo’s ivory and black silk crepe A-line dress. An Azzedine Alaia cardigan and black satin pumps were just right. It was only appropriate that she go for a more conservative look for this occasion, and it is such a pleasure to see that Lady O never abandons her favorite designers or personal style. Instead, she makes the proper adjustments and still looks divine.

The cut and fit resemble the turquoise Maria Pinto number she wore for her DNC speech so my guess is that Ms. Pinto is responsible for this greatness. Also, it’s been three weeks since the arms madness, and Lady O has kept her coveted biceps hidden since. It’s a good time to be a D.C. student as Michelle Obama celebrated Women’s History Month by visiting area high schools this morning to speak to students about achieving their dreams. Many women dream of the day they can afford to wear Nina Ricci. Maybe one of the designer’s romantic gowns to a gala or a perfectly cut suit for a job interview. Michelle Obama, though? She wears Nina Ricci to build a house. The First Lady wore a mohair cardigan-which was actually under her Isabel Toledo coat on 1.20-and matching shell by the luxury French brand for her visit to the “green” home building project on the National Mall with YouthBuild Americorps. She may have skipped fashion week, but the Council of Fashion Designers of America is not giving up hope. The group’s board of directors will honor Michelle Obama for her support of American designers at the CFDA gala in June. How lovely it would be for the First Lady to spend an evening with her favorite designers, re: Narciso Rodriguez, Jason Wu, and Thakoon Panichgul-all nominated for CFDA awards! We’ll also see what new designer Lady O might wear in the future as a grant will be created in her name to support a young fashion company. So mark your calendars: June 15!

She spoke to the Environmental Protection Agency in a blue velvet blazer, wisely belted to balance wide-leg grey pants.
